Stage Queensland Announces Angela Chaplin as Director of New Touring Services Program

In an exciting development for the arts sector, Stage Queensland has appointed Angela Chaplin to lead its newly established Touring Services Program. The announcement was made by Stage Queensland’s president, Stephen Foster, who praised Chaplin’s deep understanding of the sector, her innovative mindset, and her extensive experience working with diverse stakeholders and communities.

Chaplin’s career has spanned several decades, encompassing various senior roles across the Australian arts landscape. She has served as CEO and Artistic Director for notable organizations, including Arena Theatre, Magpie Theatre, and Deckchair Theatre, as well as Executive Director of Ausdance Queensland. Her commitment to culturally safe practices for First Nations artists has been a defining feature of her work.

Most recently, Chaplin worked as a producer at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), where she managed complex arts projects. Reflecting on her new role, Chaplin shared her enthusiasm:

The Touring Services Program aims to deliver a modern and sustainable framework for touring and arts engagement across Queensland. Over the next three years, Stage Queensland will focus on building skills among presenters and producers while expanding the connection between artists and local audiences.

With funding support of nearly $1.3 million from Arts Queensland, the program will prioritize sustainable touring models that connect communities statewide. As Queensland's peak body for performing arts centers, Stage Queensland will play a pivotal role in revitalizing the state's performing arts sector.
