Pathfinders: Independent Producers Bootcamp
A quick overview of everything you need to know for the week ahead.
Acknowledgement of Country
QTouring's office and the Pathfinders initiative take place on the lands of the Yuggera and Turrbal people, on the banks of the Maiwar river.
Minjerribah Moorgumpin Elders- in-Council Aboriginal Corporation (MMEIC) is located in Quandamooka country.
We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and we acknowledge that sovereignty has never ceded.
About the Initiative
A new professional development opportunity for 10 emerging/early career freelance, independent, producers in Magandjin/Brisbane.
The inaugural Pathfinders: Independent Producer Bootcamp intensive by QTouring is running between 16 - 20 March 2026 in Magandjin/Brisbane.
10 early/emerging career freelance independent producers have been chosen to participate in this immersive professional development experience. 68 applications were received during the application period and 10 participants were selected for the inaugural cohort by an industry selection panel.
Industry experts from the Brisbane arts sector have been chosen to help facilitate and speak on topics such as the QLD touring landscape, understanding presenters, preparing show documentation, pitching, budgeting, fundraising, and cultural safety intelligence.
This intensive is designed for freelance independent producers who want to:
- Carve out a practice working directly with other independents, instead of artists or companies seeking to enhance their (own) touring practices,
- Continue or confidently start building on tour producing skills that can positively impact the artistic processes related to a touring product,
- Cultivate skills to confidently negotiate, coordinate and deliver an artists’ touring product to national standards using legislated frameworks and guidelines, such as the MEAA or LPA frameworks, etc.
Consultation with the sector continues to highlight the missing link and connections to partner independent artists with established independent producers. This is particularly evident in regional areas.
This need is exacerbated by the growing demand for producers in funded/salaried organisations across the country, drawing highly skilled producers away from the independent sector, or interstate, with stronger job security and opportunities for career advancement.
Post Intensive
- QTouring aims to form close relationships with this inaugural cohort, and will seek to mentor these participants, forming a core part of our Tour Coordinator network that we are urgently seeking to identify, establish and nurture.
About QTouring
QTouring is Queensland’s arts touring and engagement service. We support vibrant and sustainable touring by empowering artists to tour and enabling communities to program performance and engagement activities for audiences across Queensland.
QTouring was co-designed by Arts Queensland and Stage Queensland to address the need for a more organised and sustainable approach to touring arts within Queensland. It was created through extensive consultation with stakeholders in the arts sector, ensuring it reflects the needs of artists, producers, and communities.
QTouring provides support to a wide range of stakeholders, including independent and emerging artists, established producers, venues, and communities across Queensland. We offer different levels of service, depending on your experience and needs, from intensive training for new producers to ongoing brokerage and relationship building for experienced producers.

He completed his Bachelor of Music at University of Tasmania in 2023. In 2016, Jalen clinched victory in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Deadly Funny competition. His humour often revolves around his rare condition, BBL - big, brown, and lovely.
Notable roles include acting in "Black Comedy," "Bay of Fires," and showcased his talents in TV series such as "Rosehaven”, "Paper Dolls" and various stage productions such as “Straight from the Strait” and “Eat Slay Zombie”. As a national performer Jalen has no problem with creating amazing moments on stage or camera through his artistry. Also, with his upbringing of Motown/Soul music infused with RnB and Gospel combined, He is a charismatic, soulful and comical performer who knows how to work a crowd of any capacity.
