About the work
This home-grown smash hit musical brings to life an inspiring true story.
The award-winning Aussie musical "A Girl's Guide to World War" has played to sell-out crowds on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane. Produced and written by regional artists Katy Forde and Aleathea Monsour, the founders of Musical Theatre Australia (MTA), this is an uplifting, inspiring show that celebrates the untold contribution of women - and queer women - during the war. It uncovers the true story of two 'lady doctors' who try to join the army in World War One. When the army tells them to 'stay home and sit still', these incredible women fight back. The show features two iconic Brisbane women: Dr Lilian Cooper (Queensland's first female doctor) and her beloved partner Miss Josephine Bedford. "A Girl's Guide to World War" is a work of scale: featuring 8 actors and 3 musicians. The show appeals to multiple audience segments, including women, LGBTQIA+ communities, medical workers, veterans, educational institutions, and older Australians.
