A closer look at RAVA Productions' Fractured Fairy Tales, supported by QTouring.

Founded by creative producer Ruth Atkinson and director/choreographer Alison Vallette in 2018, RAVA Productions is a Queensland-based independent performing arts company creating accessible, high-quality theatre experiences for regional and remote communities, connecting children and families with live performance experiences close to home.
Since 2019, RAVA Productions has reached more than 65 regional and remote communities. providing thousands of children with access to professional theatre experiences while creating employment and development opportunities for regional creative practitioners.
Fractured Fairy Tales continued this approach, progressing from creative development to a sustainable regional touring pathway through market connection, presenter relationships and targeted touring support.
The production was designed to respond to the realities of regional touring, with a touring model suitable for cultural centres, community venues and schools. This adaptable approach enabled the production to tour across diverse and remote Queensland communities while maintaining artistic quality and consistency.
Key Engagement
Following its premiere season in St George in May 2025, Fractured Fairy Tales was selected as one of approximately 24 productions presented at QShowcase 2025 in Toowoomba.
The showcase provided RAVA Productions with an opportunity to present the work and its touring model, including. a video with segments filmed with a live audience that showed the focus and engagement of children with the story and characters.
Outcomes
Following QShowcase, the production attracted interest from the Western Touring Circuit, with 11 of their Council consortium providing support for a Touring Queensland Fund application. The Western Touring Circuit presenter network enabled the extension of the tour to Julia Creek, Hughenden, Chinchilla, Mackay, Logan and Burdekin, with a total of 17 communities across Western and regional Queensland, which also benefitted from workshops and community engagement activities.
QShowcase 2025 was a catalyst in that it created the conditions for RAVA Productions to pitch and meet face-to-face with presenters connecting early, exploring touring potential and progressing discussions into a viable touring opportunity.
Reflections
Reflecting on the Work's progress since QShowcase 2025, it's clear that the seeds were sown in-person at the Arts Market.

Relationships built by RAVA Productions since 2019 provided the knowledge required to develop a viable route adapting to different venues and community contexts, from community hall stages to the large proscenium arch stages of Burdekin Theatre and Mackay Entertainment Centre.”
