Since bursting onto the scene in late 2023, Springboard Opera has been committed to our dual mission of supporting emerging artists and transforming the opera idea. When creating Springboard, we realised that to succeed in today’s challenging arts environment we had to do things differently. We couldn’t expect to attract new audiences, create sustainability and bring opera into the lives of modern Queenslanders without change. That’s why in addition to nurturing the incredible talent that we have, we’re committed to inspiring the local community to get involved with opera!

This production is a sold-out Australian premiere that has been popular with a broad range of audiences and demographics. An unexpected operatic gem that appeals to newcomers with an accessible and hilarious storyline, compact run-time and English libretto. Audiences loved the comedic timing, interesting score, touch of romance and brilliant performances from the cast. An enemies-turned-lovers story with a lot of depth and heart, audiences leave on a high.

Opportunities to engage with the local communities can include performances at aged care homes and facilities geared towards Seniors. Springboard Opera has close ties to 4mbs Classic FM who run their successful Silver Memories program to help Dementia patients through reminiscence music therapy. Performances specifically targeted to this purpose can be provided and taken to care homes or community locations.

On the other end of the spectrum, workshops with high-school aged students can provide meaningful educational experiences. Our young, dynamic cast can host a workshop teaching an operatic piece as well as demonstrating a short performance. Workshops can focus on the multiple skills needed to perform, such as acting, singing and musicality. There is an opportunity to include a short performance done by the students before the main performance of the opera, so they can showcase their new skills.
