Na Djinang Circus is a Melbourne-based contemporary circus company that works with diverse young artists to share unique insights with the next generation's Hands & Feet.

Na Djinang Circus aims to develop work that utilises the next generation's social and political attitudes and tells stories that challenge our own perceived ideas about contemporary Australian society.

Their work explores fundamental human characteristics from an Indigenous perspective, using the body to demonstrate complex human experiences of trust, connection, vulnerability, and joy. As a First Nations-led company, Na Djinang Circus's art and ethos reflect traditional and contemporary values. They are curious, original, and unafraid to make mistakes.

The Dry is the Companion piece to THE WET, it is performed in the week in lead up to the theatre show in the local communities and schools.

Inspired by the rough Theatre, Five highly skilled acrobats strip away bourgeois of the western theatre to create a show that is fun and for everyone.

We have a deep engagement practice, constantly discovering new ways to bring circus to communities. Engagement is never an add-on for us – it is the extension of the rigorous circus research at the heart of our practice, and it shapes everything we do. Each session is a direct expression of this exploration, making circus more accessible, relevant, and transformative for the communities we work with.

Every engagement is individual – we tailor skills, structures, and stories to the people in the room, creating a space where everyone can belong. At the centre of it all is Na Djinang’s signature style as a Blak circus company. We share our current understanding of Blak Circus and our tools for translating complex emotional stories into physical works.

Sessions may include:

Blak Dramaturgy – exploring how First Nations people experience and perceive the world.

Circus Modules – learning and devising new physical vocabularies with the group, movement, group acrobatics, and specialty skills on request.

Slow Touring– community entailed touring with pop up perfromance, meetings and lunches with community, open rehearsals, on country encounters and community placements.
