Grace Spinks, is a Brisbane based singer-songwriter who blends folk, musical theatre, and contemporary music. Grace recently graduated from the QLD Conservatorium of Music, and in the past year for Grace has performed at Woodford Folk Festival, begun staging her own events, and put on a run of preview shows her original musical, ‘The Middle Room.’ With a fresh set of original music, inspired by her travels and the stories that she grew up with, Grace is an exciting young creative to watch.

The Middle Room is set in regional QLD, inspired by the creator's family on the Fraser Coast, and her own childhood in Biloela; bringing this work to central QLD feels like a homecoming. These communities will see themselves reflected in the work.
The show has live musicians integrated into the story, and these instrumentalists 'jam' before the show as entry music. We would like to use this pre-show jam as an opportunity to integrate local acts in each community we visit. These 'openers' can set the tone for a show that feels hyper-local, as though these local musicians are jamming with the characters in the show. These paid performance opportunities would be valuable for local acts

The creator/ director is an experienced facilitator of songwriting workshops for young and disabled peoples, so she with the touring team could perform a shortened version of the show in local schools and/or disability support spaces, in conjunction with a songwriting workshop. The takeaways from these workshops would be that songwriting is accessible; you can write about your experiences and you only need a few chords to do it. We would pull apart songs from the show to demonstrate how simple songs can communicate a lot.
