Little Wing Puppets makes great theatre, with and for children. We believe that young people deserve equal access to the arts, wherever they live. We’ve have demonstrated our commitment to touring over our 19 year history. Since 2006, we have performed our shows to thousands of children in every state and territory of Australia, in some of its most remote communities, as well as overseas. We’re driven by a love of puppetry and the power of a good story. We have an extensive teaching program, and have co-created work with thousands of young people. We know that we can help shape young people’s lives by igniting their imaginations.

Artistic Director, Jenny Ellis has been a puppeteer for over 25 years. She has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Puppetry from the Victorian College of the Arts, and was a Researcher for the NSW Minister for Education. Jenny trained with Master Puppeteer Richard Bradshaw through the national Jump mentoring program. She also received a Major Fellowship from the Mike Walsh Foundation and graduated from the Heilkos School of International Theatre Creation in Italy. Jenny continues to work with a team of artists to make exceptional theatre that is compact and ready to travel.

Audiences love this show. It is exquisite in its design, touching in its message, and hilarious in its delivery. Children walk away feeling inspired and excited. It is great for preschool and primary school excursions, as well as family audiences in school holiday programs. It's a creative way for kids to learn about an Australian animal, it provides a framework for critical thinking through a Detective investigation, and opens the door to a deeper discussion about ethics and justice. The show offers both high quality storytelling and entertainment, while showcasing contemporary puppetry skills.

Performance skills can be shared post-show through a workshop called The Puppetry of Paper. This workshop is based on Bunraku-style puppetry, a traditional Japanese form of theatre which involves multiple puppeteers working closely together to operate one puppet. Workshop participants start by making a unique puppet out of paper. They will then learn techniques for bringing their puppet to life, either as individuals or as a team. Each group will work on short performances which are presented to the group. Participants will leave the workshop with a range of performance skills, which can be applied to any kind of puppet.

Little Wing Puppets are passionate about passing on their skills so that children can learn to create their own worlds through puppetry. They have facilitated workshops with thousands of young people throughout Australia, and many longer residencies where they have returned to the same community multiple times. Their workshops aim to inspire a new generation of theatre-makers.
