About the work

A visceral dance-theatre work on migration, separation and the enduring search for home.

Granted is a powerful exploration of the migrant experience, built from the shared stories of NUDO’s ensemble. It acknowledges the inherent injustice, relentless bureaucracy, heartbreaking separation, and moments of love and joy threaded throughout journeys of migration. A patchwork of lives and pathways, the work speaks to a collective desire for community, connection and home.

Created in the years following the long-awaited arrival of Artistic Director Yasim Coronado Veranes’ son Christopher from Cuba to Australia, Granted calls out the systems that keep families apart, while celebrating the resilience, care and magic people create in spite of them.

The second full-length work from NUDO, Granted features an international soundtrack and the company’s distinctive fusion of cultural, contemporary and urban dance styles. Bold, intimate and deeply human, the work reflects the very heart of NUDO’s existence—a vessel for sharing dance, culture and friendship that would not exist without migration.
