About the work

PERMISSION GRANTED! exists to equip kids with expressive tools and the courage to use them

Join global beat-boxing phenomenon Tom Thum (680K TikTok & 240K Insta followers) and keys wizard Tnee Dyer in Permission Granted, a 50minute musical show for children aged 6-14. Transform everyday noises into mind-blowing beats. Witness beat-building in action against a dynamic visual aesthetic, as children blast the noise-o-meter, drop samples into the golden mic, and dive deep into their voice boxes to discover a whole new world in a playground of sound.

Tom and Tnee make music engaging and accessible by giving audiences the cheat codes to turn any sound into music, and by equipping young minds with expressive tools and the courage to use them. A delightful, interactive experience for kids and their families that gives them full permission to turn up the volume on their creativity.

"I was immediately struck by the immediacy and impact of Tom's concept to demystify songwriting for young people and make music participation more accessible, through contemporary music practice. The audience of young participants and their families were fully engaged and responsive to the work and its philosophies."

"QPAC believes that PERMISSION GRANTED would be an ideal touring work for urban and regional Queensland venues providing access to music participation for young people. Tom and Tnee are exceptional Artists deeply committed to creating accessible and participatory contemporary music works for young people."

"I must have really liked it because I kept thinking, "Oh, I want that teacher to see this.". Like immediately you could get grade seven music and there's 28 kids in the class but you know that they want to go off and create this sort of stuff."

Adrianne Jones, QPAC Education Manager
Colleague Review

"Incredibly creative, engaging, great audience participation and also showed kids what they could achieve without any equipment, just imagination and everyday sounds. Brilliant!"

"I'm a teacher - upper primary school kids will love making the sounds and seeing/hearing it made into music, something that would really appeal to boys - so much doesn't!"
