The Next 14 Seconds
Phluxus2 Dance Collective
About the work
'Dance-making genius' meets cosmic urgency - The Next 14 Seconds, visceral, thought-provoking dance work confronting humanity’s past, present, and future.
Bang. A single point moving at unimaginable speeds, stretching towards being, towards discovering, creating… conquering.
In this infinite cosmos our world is a small but beautiful fragment, we, homo sapiens, are said to represent a mere 14 seconds of its condensed cosmic existence. Fourteen seconds; the average time it takes to decide if we like how we look. Longer than the average hug or firing a gun. But more than enough to tell someone they are loved…
A collision of physical and visual languages, the next 14 seconds draws from the disciplines of dance, theatre, visual and sound design to explore a rich tapestry inspired by human evolution. Choreographed by the award-winning Nerida Matthaei (Love Stories, The Great Gatsby) this project brings together leading practitioners Lisa Fa'alafi (costume design), Arabella Walker (visual artistry), Ben Ely and Haami Te Kuru (sound design), Keith Clark (lighting design/production), Dan Evans (dramaturg) and talented dancers Jade Brider, Hsin-Ju Ely, Georgia Peirce, Asher Bowen-Saunders and Jacob Watton.
Join us as we look at where we’ve been and where we’re heading - what will you change in your next 14 seconds?
